The 14 April 2013 the Royal Decree came into force 235/2013, that establishes the basic procedure for the energy certification of buildings -new and existing- establishing the requirement of having an energy efficiency certificate in the sale or rental.
The certificate, in addition to giving an objective energy rating, includes information on the energy characteristics of the building envelope (insulation and tightness of the closures and openings of facades and roofs) and thermal systems (energy efficiency of domestic hot water production systems, heating and air conditioning).
